Ahhh, kids

This week was a crazy one, as it usually is suddenly having two kids. On Tuesday Bryan calls me and tells me there is a problem. The school called them and there was an issue with Torrin. I think he is calling to tell me he is sick again, but then he tells me that Torrin shoved corn up his nose. Um, corn?! Bryan said the teachers did not see him do it, nor can they see any corn up his nose so Bryan would keep me posted. OK.

When Torrin got home, he ran up to me and told me that he put corn up his nose, then pointed to the middle of his forehead and said, "It's right here!" Bryan took the flashlight and looked up his nose, and sure enough, there was a kernel of corn. We had him lie on the floor and Bryan tried getting it out with a toothpick which did not work. After several attempts, I suggested we do a sinus rinse on him. It works on us (not that we shove corn up our noses, but when we are stuffy it helps clean out the grossness.) We put Torrin over the sink and I squirted the rinse up his nose. Sure enough, out came the very large kernel of corn. Yes, we took a picture of it.

That was oh so fun.  Torrin was mad, but hopefully he now knows not to stick things up his nose.

They have not been having good days at school this week. Camden has been pinching, shoving, kicking, etc. We wonder what is going on with him, if something is bothering him, etc. He tends to talk to me, so Bryan asked if I could go to lunch with him and see what was going on with him. I picked him up from school and I see him sitting by himself at a table. Apparently he was pinching again. This really stinks because all of us have been looking forward to going to Ft. Collins this weekend and we told him if he got in trouble, he would not be able to go. I am huge on following through, and I knew if we said he could not go, we should stick with it.

When we left the classroom, I asked Camden if he wanted to go to McDonald's. He said, "I was thinking Red Robin." Um, you did not even know I was coming! He then realized that McDonald's has toys, so he was for that. We go to McDonald's and before he could play he had to have his lunch. As we sat there, I told him that he should not be pinching, and asked him why he was making so many poor choices lately. He said he did not know. I told him that he can tell me anything, and I asked if something has been bugging him. He said, "Yes, there is something bugging me." I leaned in, told him to talk to me about it, and he said, "Well, my head itches and I am hot all the time." WHAT?! Here I am thinking I am going to make a breakthrough with him, and he tells me his head itches and he is hot all the time?  Sadly, we got nowhere.

On the way back to school he promised to be better. When I dropped him off, I called Bryan and told him Camden was not having a good day and we need to decide if we were going to follow through on the threat of no Ft. Collins trip. He said he would think about it.

Bryan picked up Camden and Torrin from school and apparently they both had a bad afternoon. Bryan was not happy and we told them we would have to think about going to Ft. Collins. Bryan and I talked more about it and we thought about taking something else away from him. I suggested giraffe which is basically like taking his arm. He is so attached to that so Bryan said no way. I said that was probably the only way to get to him. As we were talking, Camden disappeared. Apparently he went upstairs and was on his bed crying, as he held the toothpaste he had packed for "Ethan's house." He was sad because we might not get to go to Ft. Collins. He came down, and as we ate dinner, Bryan told Camden he might need to give up giraffe for the night. He sobbed and said he would not be able to sleep without him and he wanted Bryan to come up with something else for him to give up. Bryan said no, sleeping without giraffe was the only way to make him understand how he made so many bad decisions today. Camden cried and cried, asking where giraffe would sleep (Yes, that is his name. Giraffe.) He asked if he could sleep in his room, and we said no. Finally we agreed on making a giraffe a bed in the hallway. Torrin then told us he got to sleep with his giraffe. We said no, you smacked your teacher today but his giraffe could sleep with Camden's.

Before they went to bed, a bed was made for the giraffes. Here is it:

Camden made sure they were covered up to their mouths (he showed me where their mouths were.) He also got that dog from Bryan's office to "watch over them while they sleep."

When he got into bed, he took 4 different animals with him. I would have preferred he not sleep with anything because I am a big meanie, but it crushed Bryan to have Camden give up giraffe for the night. Hopefully this will get through to him. He is not being himself and we don't know why. Fingers crossed!
